Abstract

The paper generalizes the appoaches to the development of neurotic disturbances as psychological phenomena, that are denoted by the term "disorder". The essence of the problem boils down to the fact that the modern field of diagnostics does not contain a clear boundary between psychological definitions of neurotic disorders and psychopathological symptoms, that are regulated by the new classification of mental and behavioral disorders.

The author claims that the symptoms of neurotic disorders are inherently indistinguishable from both functional disorders of healthy subjects and symptoms that occur in the course of various somatic diseases. The development of neuroses is emphasized as disorders that do not lead to organic damage of the organ system, in particular the central nervous system, that reflect specific clinical manifestations in the absence of pathopsychotic symptoms, and are mainly identified as a neuropsychiatric disorder in the process of destroying significant social ties of the personality.

Based on scientific-historical and modern approaches in the field of the problem, the author summarizes the essence of the concept of neurotic states as a psychological phenomenon through the prism of the key determinants of the functional disorders’ psychophysiological formation: "disorder of neurotic", "nervous breakdown", "personality neurosis", "conflict personality".

In the paper, attention to one of problem of the subject's reaction to psychological stress, that is one of the urgent problems in the field of crisis counseling is drawn. The author indicates the interpretation of the concept "stress", which is revealed through the impact of psycho-traumatic events on the personality during the developmental process of disorders of prodromal individual-psychological features, that contribute to the emergence of neurotic syndrome.

The essence of the problem boils down to the fact that therapeutic work, namely psychological counseling, is a valuable component both in individual therapy and in complex treatment and rehabilitation of subjects with neurotic disorders.
