DIGNITY AND MORAL: PHILOSOPHICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL CONTENTS

The article is devoted to the study of the content of the concepts of «dignity», «self-esteem», «morality», «moral» as philosophical and ethical categories, and the analysis of the interdependence of these psychological phenomena.
The authors investigate changes in the views on the problem of human dignity and its morality in the historical aspect. In particular, an analysis of the views on the problem presented by representatives of antiquity was carried out ( Democritus, Socrates, Aristotle), Roman stoicism ( Seneca, Marcus Aurelius, Epictetus), medieval scholasticism (Thomas Aquinas), the Renaissance (Lorenzo Valla, Giannozzo Manetti, Francesco Petrarca), modern history ( Thomas Hobbes), the Age of Enlightenment (Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Claude Adrien Helvétius), philosophers-idealists of the XVIII-XIX centuries (Immanuel Kant, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Friedrich Schiller), neoclassical philosophers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries (Arthur Schopenhauer, Søren Aabye Kierkegaard, Friedrich Nietzsche, John Bordley Rawls) and modern philosophers and psychologists (Shishkin, O. Drobytskyi, G. Banceladze, S. Serebrenikova, V.Malakhov, V.Lozovy, M.Borishevsky and others).The article analyzes the main criteria and factors of human dignity; levels of development of personal dignity; components of human dignity.
The main directions of comprehension of the problem of morality and human dignity in psychology and philosophy are defined.
