PSYCHOTHERAPY OF CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS: TRADITIONS AND MODERN APPROACHES

Abstract

The article substantiates the goals, features of the theory and practice of children's and adolescent psychotherapy, taking into account the traditions of theoretical-genetic and organizational-methodical principles of various directions and modern integrative processes. Determined that modern psychotherapy for children and adolescents is aimed at solving problems and developing the potential of children and adolescents and expanding their experience.

Defined the features of modern psychotherapy for children and adolescents, such as: the child’s dependence on the parents and the influence of its environment and wide socio-cultural context; the need to establish a close alliance with parents as part of the psychotherapeutic process during the therapy; forming during the work with children and adolescents the motivation to psychotherapy through establishing emotional contact and trusting relationships between the psychotherapist and the child, based on invaluable acceptance, empathy, support and sincerity of the therapist; interdependence and correlation of psychotherapeutic methods and techniques with age and individual peculiarities of development of children and adolescents; psychotherapy of children and adolescents embraces developmental, resource, diagnostic, corrective and educational aspects; more expressed transfer reactions of the therapist to the child-patient, which should be monitored and understood by the psychologist.
